Pixel Me? Pixel You!

0Comments

As you probably noticed, we have some crazy artwork in Beat It! Here are some things you might see…if you look close enough.

Pixel Glus
There are many Glu employees drawn into the game. This started when our artist drew some of us in pixel form, which caught the attention of more employees (who would then ask to be pixelized). Pretty soon we had enough people to pixelize our entire office, which ended up as a world in the game. I’m in there somewhere holding a laptop incorrectly and a can of coke, while wearing tapered pixel jeans. Apparently this is my daily uniform.

Pixel Pets
Sometimes little pixel dogs show up in our game. If you watch the main menu animation long enough you can occasionally see them being thrown in the air. These guys are Boots and Casper, tiny pets of Glu Employees Kevin and Cat.

Pixel Ape
I’m not really sure why we have a gorilla in the game (and so why so often). The first few levels we drew for the game are actually the very last few levels of the game, and our artist decided to put a gorilla in there spinning records. Somehow variations of the gorilla snuck into our menu, and eventually our app icon.

Pixel Burgers
The Beat It! Artists are from our Beijing office. We had the opportunity to work with them here in San Mateo for a few months. I think they were surprised how many burgers we eat here, and drew in quite a few of them. These burgers are from Carl’s Jr. in case you are wondering.

Pixel Glu

I’m sure as you play the game you will encounter other eccentric items that may leave you scratching your head. Perhaps in a future update we might pixelize you…
